This piece attempts to show Black women in ways they are rarely visualized: working hard. This scene is intimate, and yet intimidating in a calm and slow way. I ask myself constantly what our success actually looks like as Black women. A lot of it looks like this; putting in work when no one sees, when no one is praising us, or calling us strong. It is the exhaustion that we push past and move forward into the future with. It is the grind, that wakes us up first thing in the morning and that won’t let us sleep at night. This is a power stance even if we don’t know it.
